Our Story

As one of the oldest child care centres in Brisbane, we’re a highly experienced provider. In many ways, the Playhouse of today is different from the early years, but our instinct to nurture remains at our core. Our centre was initially formed with parents looking after other parents’ children in a playgroup format on campus. Over time, we evolved into a formal child care service with educated, qualified employees. We remained connected to the Student Union, later moving to the P&C model of today.

We’re now in a brand new state-of-the-art facility, but retain our core values and inclusive culture. At Playhouse, our services are broad-reaching, accommodating you as your children transition from child care, into kindergarten and then on to primary school. We’re also the only centre on campus to provide all meals for your child - one less thing for you to worry about.

At Playhouse, we’re proud to accommodate your family as your children transition from child care, into kindergarten and on to primary school.

Our services include:

● Childcare

● Kindergarten

● Out of school hours care

● Vacation Care

Our Centre

We have close to 50 staff members at Playhouse, many of whom have been with us for eight or more years. All of our staff are highly experienced educators. Our team of younger educators bring energy and new curriculum initiatives to the team, mentored by our mature aged, senior staff. Our team have an incredible range of backgrounds, from psychology to dentistry, which complements their child care expertise. They incorporate their skills into our program. Playhouse educators are multicultural and often engage with children about important days and rituals in different cultures. Our higher than average staff to child ratio provides your child with outstanding care each day. Staff turnover at our centre is low, so you can continue valuable dialogue about your child’s development, while enjoying continuity of care.

Our state-of-the-art facility enjoys beautiful surrounds, backing on to the UQ sports oval. Both our nature playground and sensory garden offer plants that smell and feel inviting to children and adults alike. Our three adjoining, flexible outdoor spaces are safely divided for different age groups but can also be opened up for multi-age activities. With plenty of shade for warm days, our outdoor spaces embrace the elements of nature. An in-built water pump, river streams and creek beds fill up for creative mud and sand play. Our wonderful Yarning circle helps children embrace and understand Indigenous culture, a vital facet of the early childhood curriculum we follow.

Our Menu

We’re pleased to provide all meals for your child at Playhouse - one less thing for you to do at home. Food options include a nutritionally balanced morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late day snack. These are freshly made on site in our state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, by our qualified chef. A nutritionist also grades all meals and ingredients.

We cater to all dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, nut allergies and egg allergies, and all meat is halal certified. We’re always open to dialogue with you around food options for your children, and to help care for fussy eaters. By incorporating baking into our day-to-day activities, we foster enjoyment of food, cooking and working together.

Flexible meal times are in place to:

  • Facilitate the opportunity for siblings to eat and enjoy time together

  • Help children learn to listen to their body and eat when they’re actually hungry

  • Reduce the need to interrupt children’s play

Checklists are in place to track each child’s meals for the day.
